Well, this week was pretty fun, with an exchange, some
hot, some cold, some rain, and some teaching of the restored gospel. The
weather has been a little spastic this week, the beginning of the week was just
the average late winter Louisiana weather, decent in the day time, and a little
chilly at night. Then Thursday it was pretty hot. I thought, alright, Louisiana
summer, bring it on. And because it was hot, I didnt think to bring a jacket
with me for our exchange. I went into North Baton Rouge with Elder Sorensen
from Friday - Sunday. So Friday it cooled of a little, but was still alright
for short sleeves. Saturday was a different story. Cold and rainy. Just dreary.
We weren't able to teach many lessons, but found some cool new people and
helped one of there investigators out. I guess you could say we did "service".
Probably the funnest service I've got to do my whole mission. It was with their
investigator who is from Brazil and used to be a professional musician. He has
been performing around here and has been borrowing a sound system from a
friend, but he wanted to get his own. He knew about my music and sound
engineering background, so he asked me to come with to Guitar
Center and helped him pick one out! So much fun! We looked at a bunch of them
and listened to a few. We listened to some as well. Definitely a test on my
vocab to try to explain the difference between passive and active speakers, and
other kinds of details. After listening to a few cheaper ones, he wasn't super
impressed, then we listened to some of their higher end stuff, and
it sounded amazing, and with out hesitation, he said "Thats the one I
want." I was thinking the same thing! He ended up getting some really nice
active JBL boxes, and a 12 channel mackie mixer with built in effects (incase
anyone cares).
Another story from the exchange. This kind of
freaks me out to re-tell it, cuz it freaked me out in the first place, but here
goes. We were coming back from an appointment, heading back in for dinner, and
an ambulance came behind us with the siren on, so we pulled of to the side and
let it pass. We started going behind it again, and as it pulled around the
corner, the back door of it swung open, and a small cooler/ice chest slid
out. We pulled off to the side to check it out. We were wondering if we should grab
it and chase the ambulance or should we call 911 or the ghostbusters or
something? We weren't sure. So I said "hey, lets open it." Elder
Sorensen wasn't excited about that idea, but he agreed. So we opened it up, and
inside it was full of ice, and on top was a severed toe inside a plastic bag.
Elder Sorensen was freaking out, but I wasn't too worried, because now we
knew what to do with it. So we called a tow truck!
We unfortunately didnt have anyone at church with us.
I cant tell if its our lack of faith, or theirs, but people just arent making
commitments! I feel like we have lots of faith, so maybe its not that.
Its tough stuff, this missionary work thing. But, like Elder Clarke said,
we cant get discouraged, we need to keep moving and doing the things the lord
has asked us to do. We had another really good lesson with that guy Victor, the
one who we found when we saw him twice in one day. He unfortunately didnt come
to church, but we had a great lesson on the plan of salvation, and he understood
everything pretty well.
Well thats about it, hope to hear back from yall
soon!
Love,
Elder Cardon
P.S. If you didnt get it, the tow truck thing was a joke.
Get it? TOE truck? Lol!
