DAY 328: OCTOBER 24

Hey family! We had a pretty good week last week, we have met some new people and have a little bit more of a teaching pool. We had the cool experience last week of going to the rural life museum, which I wrote about, but nobody commented on, so apparently you didnt think it was cool, but I thought it was! Elder Sorensen and I are getting along pretty well, we have taught some good lessons and his spanish is improving (but he still has a ways to go) :). Last week we had a member of the LSU singles ward come out with us, who served his mission in Mexico a few years ago, which was pretty cool. Always nice to have a little extra testimony there.

So I've been better about writing in little things that happen each day, so I have a few stories to tell! We had a district meeting last Tuesday and we did an "object lesson" of trying to walk across the gym blindfolded, but having the example of having the missionaries help, then the members help, etc. I was the one blindfolded, and I failed. But, its because the members didnt help me find the otherside, which was the celestial kingdom! So, to all members everywhere- help out the recent converts. On wednesday we went and helped a member who recently had a baby translate at the office for WIC, whatever that stands for. Its some program where they give you milk for your baby or something. But anyway, there was a whole lot of posters promoting breastfeeding. Little bit weird as a missionary. Or anybody, really.

Last Thursday and Friday we had a cool specialized training with our mission president, President Wall. It got us super motivated and on a new focus, which is really about teaching the Doctrine of Christ. That is, the simple things- Faith, repentance, baptism, the gift of the holy ghost and enduring to the end. Thats what its all about. And thats what was really restored in this restoration of the gospel. Its all over the place in the Book of Mormon. Its of course in the New testament, but without the base guide given to us by the BOM and modern revelation, its is very easily misinterpreted. So, thats kind of our new mission focus, is really working in the doctrine of Christ into every lesson we teach, and inviting them to partake of the atonement through it. Of course we still share the Joseph Smith first vision, the plan of salvation, the word of wisdom and everything- but really putting it all through the "filter" of the doctrine of Christ.

Yesterday we had five, yes, FIVE people committed to come to church. They all shanked us, and we had a whole whopping zero people. Its cool. Didnt wanna bring you eternal salvation anyway!

Well, hope everyone is doing well, and hope to hear from you all soon!

Love,

Elder Cardon
